Barbados and Japanese joinery aren't two things I'd naturally put together, but here we are, and it's pretty spectacular.

The Adjaye Associates team has used traditional Japanese timber joinery techniques for the Barbados National Performing Arts Pavilion. Think about that for a second – ancient, intricate woodworking methods, often seen in temples and tea houses, now forming the backbone of a major new cultural centre in the Caribbean. It's a testament to the strength and beauty of these techniques, proving they're not just historically significant but totally relevant for large-scale, sustainable modern architecture.
